Occupy Museums’ [OM] first occupation was the Museum of Natural History and then quickly spread to other New York institutions including the Museum of Modern Art [several times], the Whitney Museum, the Museum of American Finance, Sotheby's Fine Art Auction House and Lincoln Center. OM went to the 2012 Berlin Biennale [BB7] and did several actions that were made into videos including occupying Deutsche Bank and the Pergamon Museum. BB7 also made a video of an Aaron Burr Society performance. Returning from BB7, OM occupied Momenta Art in Bushwick and shared the space with Strike Debt, Free University and Making Worlds based on the Commons.
After the occupation of Momenta Art, the Society became more active with Strike Debt and the Making Worlds based on the Commons. The Society did not participate in OM’s amazing installation of at the 2017 Whitney Biennial. However, in 2016 OM asked the Society to represent them for a conference titled Art • Money • Crisis at the University of Cambridge, England. We were also included in OM’s #J20 Artist Speak Out at the Whitney Museum. #J20 is a reference to January 20, 2017, the day Donald Trump became president.
